Laura’s Story (Mental Health Services)

Care Is a Call Away

Laura

Meet Laura, a resilient woman who found her strength through virtual therapy at Hope Services. Born with cerebral palsy, Laura faced lifelong discrimination as a Native American woman with a disability. Laura’s pain intensified when she lost her brother and grandmother and was unable to participate in cherished traditions. She struggled to express her emotions, leading to outbursts of anger and sadness.

In April 2022, Laura decided to seek help at Hope Services’ Counseling Center. While her wheelchair and limited mobility posed transportation challenges, Telehealth bridged the gap. Through therapy, she learned to identify and express her emotions, replacing sudden outbursts with assertive communication. She embraced the process of grief, set healthy boundaries and discovered the power of self-care.

Today, Laura is a chaplain, advocate and speaker, inspiring others with disabilities and Native American heritage. With Hope’s support, she’s become her best self, proving that healing is possible. Together, we’re touching lives like Laura’s, one session at a time.
