Max's Story

Max

Max has been a client at the Counseling Center for more than 20 years. When he came to Hope, he was struggling with daily anxiety and impulsivity, he was often yelling, and he could become aggressive when the coping skills he used to manage his anxiety were interrupted. Max also struggled to manage obsessive thinking and compulsive behaviors that negatively impacted his life.

When he was referred to Hope, he started working with his psychiatrist and with a series of clinicians (in both individual and group counseling), along with behavioral coaches that provide him with ongoing 1:1 support through the Bridge Behavioral Program.

In the past two decades, Max has made significant progress; he is now practicing and learning effective coping skills, can self-sooth when agitated, and is able to verbalize his thoughts, needs, and wants. He also has dramatically improved his communication with others and his social skills, allowing him to enrich his daily quality of life.

Max has a great personality and has a good sense of humor. He really loves spending time with his family during weekends, being outdoors, and eating out. Max loves playing games and puzzles, likes to entertain himself with cards, computer, and board games, and is willing to play with other people. Max knows his daily schedule very well and has a great memory about book readings, favorite shows and events, and excellent math skills. Max also enjoys telling jokes and likes to practice joke-telling with his father.
